Dr. Robert W. Taylor, Dean

Message from Dean

The School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Alabama A&M University is challenging stereotypical conceptions of agricultural and environmental sciences as it prepares students to excel in a changing world. The college freshmen of the 21st century will work through the middle of the twenty-first century, and Alabama A&M is committed to designing its curriculum and directing its research and extension programs toward the future.

To meet society's future needs, the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences offers diverse programs, many of which are not traditionally associated with agriculture or family and consumer sciences. Within its five academic departments, Agribusiness, Community Planning and Urban Studies, Food and Animal Sciences, Plant and Soil Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, program emphases reflects today's technological advancements and possibilities.

The triad of foci in the School: teaching, research, and extension - the historical responsibilities of land grant colleges and universities - are both collectively and individually poised to expand the frontiers of agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences and family and consumer sciences. As researchers, the School's faculty are committed to addressing our nations most pressing needs by working toward insuring an abundant and safe food supply while maintaining an environment we will be proud to leave to our children. As educators, they are meeting the tremendous challenge of preparing scholars for tomorrow's scientific workforce. The extension staff works to utilize its research and educational experience to improve the lives of Alabamians.
