Activity #1 – Strengthening Graduate Programs in Optic and Material Science
Abstract: This activity addresses the under-representation of African Americans in the Physics Graduate Program. It proposes to increase the number of African American M.S. and Ph.D. graduates, in the Physics Program. As well as improve the quality and management of the infrastructure.
Activity #2 – Strengthening Graduate Programs in Bioenvironmental Sciences
Abstract: The purpose of this activity is to increase the number of under-represented African Americans with graduate training in bioenvironmental sciences. Also, the activity supports tasks that enhance the curriculum, faculty expertise, equipment and facilities that improve the program's posture in doctoral level program offerings.
Activity #3 – Strengthening the Ph.D. Program in Food Science
Abstract: The overall objective of this activity is to increase the number of African-American Ph..D. graduates in Food Science. The goal will achieved via three specific objectives: 1) to Enhance the curriculum and research in food safety, food microbiology and immunology, 2) to increase the enrollment and training of African-American students at the Ph.D. level in Food Science, and 3) to improve, renovate and equip laboratories to provide a competitive environment in Immunology and Microbiology.
Activity #4 – Strengthening Contributions from Faculty, Staff and Private Sector
Abstract: The overall purpose of this activity is to strengthen the University's contributions from faculty, staff and private industry, with a larger goal of securing financial support to enhance the Educational Trust Fund Endowment. An endowment distinguishes a "great" university from a "good" university, particularly at a time when state appropriations are level almost every year. Staff in this office will serve as liaison between the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President for Research and Development and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs for the primary purpose of strengthening overall contributions to the Trust Fund.
Activity #5 – Strengthening Distance Learning through Education and Information Technology Services
Abstract: Alabama A & M University has been a pioneer in distance learning since forming a partnership with the Alabama Public Television Network in the mid 1970's. This partnership resulted in a statewide production design to teach art appreciation to students and adults. Therefore, this activity endeavor is to help Alabama A & M University remains on the cutting edge of technology in the area of distance learning.
Activity #6 – Strengthening the Graduate Program in Computer Science
Abstract: The Alabama A & M University Computer Science Department (formerly known as the Computer and Information Sciences Department) will execute this activity according to a structured, time-phased plan that coordinates the shaping of our pursuits with the progressive Computer Science Graduate improvement plan that was put in place at the beginning of the 1999-2000 academic year. This plan includes the use of the stated implementation strategy (objectives) synergistically with other departmental improvement activities.
