Reference / Information Commons
The Reference Department provides assistance in conducting research and instruction. Located on the second floor, this area houses the print Reference collection of the LRC (numerous encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, indexes, and bibliographies). Print reference materials are non-circulating, but a photocopier is available in the area for making copies at a nominal cost.
The new Information Commons serves the students with 20 workstations for rapid access to databases, AmCat, and other web based research sources. Bibliographic Instruction is available to faculty who want to schedule their classes for a detailed introduction to the LRC. Sessions are designed to give students an introduction and orientation to the services and resources available at the LRC. Interlibrary Loan
The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Office assists Alabama A&M University faculty, staff, and students with locating and obtaining research materials not owned by the J. F. Drake Memorial LRC.
While the majority of the Interlibrary loan requests can be obtained at no cost, some requests for items in more specialized and technical fields may require the payment of a fee to obtain the material.
You may obtain a printed Interlibrary Loan Request form in the Reference Department or you may submit a request electronically by clicking HERE.

Government Documents
The Government Documents Unit is a partial depository for Federal Documents published by the Government Printing Office. This Unit is located on the second floor of the LRC and houses select publications of the U.S. Federal, State, and local governments.
These government resources are received in various formats, including paper, microfiche, CD-ROM, DVD, and via the Internet.

Serials Department
The Serials Department houses current journals, magazines, and newspapers, and also maintains bound volumes, microfilm, and microfiche collections. A "serial" is defined as any publication issued in successive parts which are intended to be continued indefinitely. These publications may be issued in print, non-print, and/or electronic format.
Common types of serials include: abstracts and indexes, newsletters, almanacs and yearbooks, newspapers, annual reviews and proceedings, popular magazines, directories, research journals, electronic databases, and trade publications.

Circulation
The Circulation Unit, located on the second floor, provides patrons with access to library resources through services and policies, designed to service the campus community. These services include, the checkout/in of books and other materials, retrieval of items from closed collections and directional assistance. Readings or other materials placed on reserve by instructors can also be obtained at Circulation.
