What is non-degree entry?
Permission to attend the AAMU as a non-degree student does not guarantee admission at the undergraduate or graduate level, nor does it guarantee admission into a certificate program or the teacher licensure only program. Full credit will be given for each course (up to semester 12 hours for graduate; 24 semester hours for undergraduate) taken in non-degree status if you decide to apply as degree-seeking.
Who is non-degree entry for?
Visiting students - A visiting student who takes coursework at AAMU for one term and then transfers the course credit to the home (degree-granting) institution.
Teacher licensure candidates
Certificate program applicants– Please contact the department offering the program for specific registration information and procedures.
Personal and/or academic growth
People who have missed the regular application deadline
Taking prerequisites (undergraduate, second degree, or graduate) for a degree seeking program

Non-degree application checklist
• All questions on the Non-degree Entry Form must be answered, except the military question, which requires only one response if the answer is "yes".
• The form must be signed, dated, with fee attached (if applicable)
• Applicants must answer the "What is your purpose for attending in a non-degree status" question
• GED applicants: you must submit a copy of your diploma before your application can be processed. Applicants must earn a composite score of 50 or more, with no less than 49 on each battery score
• Transcript(s) should be submitted before you can attend for a second semester
Non-degree restrictions
• A student who is already admitted to AAMU may not register for non-degree coursework.
• Financial aid is not available for non-degree students, except those in approved teacher licensure programs.
• Students under suspension from another college or university are not eligible to attend as non-degree.
• Academic advising is not available to non-degree students. Students however, are strongly encouraged to contact their academic department before registering for courses if intending to apply as degree seeking for a successive term.
• Undergraduate students are advised to take no more than 24 credit hours as non-degree students.
• All students, degree and non-degree alike, must meet the continuance requirements as stated in the current University Catalog Failure to meet these requirements will subject students to probation or dismissal.
Application fee for non-degree applicants
If you choose to apply to AAMU as a degree-seeking student after you have paid the $10 non-degree application fee. The fee is paid only once - upon application - regardless of the number of semesters you attend as a non-degree seeking student.
