| E-Mail Migration Fequently Asked Questions
What Do I Need To Do Now?
The first thing that you should do is make sure that you have Outlook 2007. If you do not have Outlook 2007 you should refer to “Where Do I Get Outlook?” below. If you have Outlook and you are unable to determine if you have the 2007 version please call the Help Desk at extension 5993.
Where Do I Get Outlook?
Download Outlook 2007 at this location and follow the instructions http://www2.aamu.edu/its/email/install/
Why Do I Need Outlook 2007?
You need Outlook 2007 because Outlook 2007 is the only version of Outlook that works with Exchange 2007. It also affords you the opportunity to save your current e-mail to your desktop computer. And, Outlook is the only ITS supported e-mail client.
Will Other E-Mail Clients (Thunderbird, Eudora, IncrediMail and etc…) Work?
Other e-mail clients may work but we are not sure. Because of limited staff and the numerous available e-mail clients on the market we are only able to support Outlook. If you choose to use an e-mail client other than Outlook 2007 ITS will be unable to provide you with support.
What Version of Outlook Do I Need?
You will need Outlook 2007. Outlook 2003 will not work with Exchange 2007.
Will my password change?
Yes, your password will change to the first four characters of your last name and last four characters of your SSN. Your e-mail name will remain unchanged.
Example
Your Name: John Q. Public
Your SSN: 420-99-8876
Password and e-mail name will be as follows:
E-mail address: john.public@aamu.edu
Password: publ8876
What Happens To My Current E-Mail?
When Outlook 2007 is installed on your system, your current e-mail will be downloaded and saved to your desktop computer. The current e-mail will reside on both the current e-mail system and your desktop computer. You can continue to access your e-mail the same as you always have but keep in mind that newly received e-mail will only get saved to your desktop when you use Outlook. Additionally, you will need to use Outlook one last time before completely discontinuing the use of your current e-mail client.
Once My E-Mail is saved to My Desktop Computer Will I Be Able to Access it From the Web?
Once your e-mail is saved to your desktop you will not be able to see the saved e-mail from the web initially. You will need to send the saved e-mail to yourself and once that is done you will be able to see that e-mail from that point forward. All e-mail received through the Exchange server will be viewable from the web.
