Alabama A&M University S.O.A.R. (Student Orientation And Registration) STUDENT READINESS CHECKLIST
SECTION I: THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU ARRIVE ON CAMPUS:
- Pay your $100.00 Enrollment Fee and your $100.00 Housing Deposit.
Attend a SOAR (Student Orientation And Registration) session, OR
Contact the Office of Testing Services at 256.372.5635 or 256-372-5628 to schedule the COMPASS Test.
SECTION II: THINGS YOU NEED TO BRING TO CAMPUS:
- Housing Permit (only applies to students who will live on campus)
Financial Aid documents (award letter(s), student's and parents' W-2 and 1040
A valid photo identification card (driver's license, official state / government issued ID, or passport)
Current immunization card.
Copy of birth certificate.
Medications, prescription refills, and personal first-aid items
Medical insurance card.
Proof of vehicle insurance (applies only to students with automobiles on campus).
Current vehicle registration information.
Official copy of final high school transcript, if one has not already been submitted to the Office of Admissions (must be in a sealed envelope).
Summary of transfer credits (applies to transfer student only).
Emergency contact information (name, relation to the student, address, phone number, etc., of person to be contracted).
An Alarm clock (wind-up or electric with battery back-up).
Flashlight with batteries.
Telephone for your room.
A box with a lock to secure valuables.
Appropriate outerwear (rain gear, jackets, etc.).
Females: at least one skirted business suit, office appropriate (knee-lenght or longer), white dress, or white skirt, white blouse and comfortable dress shoes.
Males: Dark tie, white dress shirt, black dress slacks, and dress shoes
MANDATORY attire for the Torch Lighting Ceremony: Females - white skirted suit, white dress, or white skirt, white blouse and comfortable shoes. Males - Dark tie, white dress shirt, black dress slacks, and dress shoes
AAMU paraphernalia (maroon and / or white clothing) for Bulldog Spirit Fridays!
SECTION III: WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU ARRIVE ON CAMPUS

Students who have received a housing permit may report directly to their assigned residence halls.
Students who do not have a room reservation should report to the Housing Station located on the main floor of the Elmore Building.
First-time students who have completed the COMPASS assessment should report directly to the SOAR Table on the main floor of the Elmore Building. Students should complete the registration process by paying fees in the Elmore Building at the cashier's station.
First-time student who have not completed the COMPASS assessment and have paid the Enrollment Fee should report to the COMPASS Registration Table to be assigned a time and location (on-campus computer lab) to take the COMPASS assessment. After the COMPASS is completed and the student is notified by a SOAR staff member, the student should then report to the SOAR Table on the main floor of the Elmore Building. Students should complete the registration process by paying fees in the Elmore Building at the cashier's station.
First-time students who have not completed the COMPASS assessment and have not paid the Enrollment Fee of $100.00 should report to the cashier to pay the $100.00 Enrollment Fee, proceed to the COMPASS registration table to be assigned a time and location (on-campus computer lab) to take the COMPASS assessment. After the COMPASS assessment is completed and the student has been contacted by a SOAR staff member, the student should then report to the SOAR Table on the main floor of the Elmore Building. Students should complete the registration process by paying fees in the Elmore Building at the cashiers's station.
